This course builds on basic literary and cultural theories introduced in earlier courses and zeroes in on specific topics and lines of inquiry that continue to challenge students to think, read, and write critically. A special topic will be introduced each time the course is offered, depending on the instructor. The topic will be announced prior to registration; students can also query the dept. office ahead of time. Recent topics include cosmopolitanism , ancient texts and/or modern theories, transmediality, new directions in critical theory, and so on. The class will be conducted in a seminar mode requiring students’ active participation. The goal is for each student to work toward a final project that concludes four years of study at HKU.
Assessment: 100% coursework.
