Following a BA in World Literatures and Cultures from Tsinghua University in Beijing and an MSt in Comparative Literature and Critical Translation from the University of Oxford, Chen Nuo is currently pursuing a PhD in Comparative Literature through a joint programme between the University of Hong Kong and King’s College London. Her research centres on questions of bordering—geopolitical, cultural, linguistic, communal, and disciplinary—in modern intellectual landscapes, as well as the possibilities that literature and translation offer for crossing, transcending, and reimagining such borders. Within this broader framework, her doctoral research examines how processes of verbal and cultural translation enable the sublime—an ostensibly “untranslatable” concept of transcendence—to be reconfigured as a revolutionary keyword mediating relations among the self, the transcendent Other, and collective political experience across three revolutionary contexts: the French Revolution, the Russian Decembrist Revolt, and the 1911 Chinese Revolution.
