Film Synopsis
In Hong Kong, during the Chinese Ghost Festival, Taoist organizations hold rice distribution events, in which poor people receive bags of rice. The film records one of the largest rice distribution events, during which more than eight thousand people showed up for the rice, most of them being the elderly, as well as some disabled people.
慈雲山球場舉行的一次盂蘭節派米活動中,參加輪米人士約有八千二百人,大部份為長者。派平安米活動本為香港的傳統習俗,但後來因貧窮的長者不斷増加,很多老人以此賴以生存。
About the Director
Tammy Cheung is a Hong Kong documentary filmmaker. She studied Sociology in Hong Kong and Film at Concordia University in Canada. Since 2022, she has moved to London.
Cheung made her directorial debut in 1999. Her films is mainly using the "Direct Cinema" approach. Her works include Invisible Women, Secondary School, Rice Distribution, July and Election, which have been invited to participant in international film festivals. Red Kalyna is Cheung’s first work after moving to the UK, which records the plight faced by refugees during the Ukrainian war.
張虹為香港紀錄片導演,曾在香港及加拿大修讀社會學和電影。2022年移居英國。張虹自1999年開始拍攝紀錄片,作品主要以「直接電影」的手法拍攝。作品包括《看不見的女人》、《中學》、《平安米》、《七月》及《選舉》等十多部作品。《Red Kalyna》為張虹移英後首部作品,記錄了烏克蘭戰爭下難民面對的困境。
