Film Synopsis
The ferry is the means of transportation connecting islanders to the city, as well as a space for leisurely recreation. The interactions among residents happen during the daily boat rides. The documentary uses an observational approach to capture the everyday lives of the neighbors and passengers on the ferry, showcasing the rich and diverse community landscape and unique human touch of Lamma Island. The 22-minute voyage sees multiple changes in scenery, from the densely populated harbor, through the shipping lanes bustling with cargo ships, to the rural charm of the small island. The flowing waves serve as both the background and the scenery of Hong Kong.
A Note from the Director
Ever since I came into contact with fishermen's culture, I have been fascinated by things on the sea. Living at sea is another world. If you have a pair of captain's eyes, you will see things that ordinary people cannot see. How many people know how much craftsmanship is involved, how much work is involved? You sleep on a peaceful journey because someone else is at the helm for you. It's not a given that the ferry will reach its destination. This moment of tranquility is the tiny thing I want to memorize.
