PROFILE

Alexandre Mecattaf is a Hong Kong-based Lebanese architect and designer whose work explores how everyday spatial and social practices reveal collective cultural identities. Across research, design, and teaching, he foregrounds overlooked dimensions of everyday life and explores how and ordinary interactions shape the ways places are experienced and understood.

He holds a BA in Anthropology and Biology from Boston University and an M.Arch from Cornell University. During his time at Cornell, he proposed a new approach to contested urban and public space in Beirut after the Lebanese Civil War, and curated an exhibition that explored the relationship between space and sexuality.

Mecattaf has taught undergraduate design studios at Cornell University in Ithaca and Rome, and in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong. He has previously worked at Oppenheim in Switzerland and Collective Studio in Hong Kong. He was the lead designer and project manager for the Besa Museum, Albania’s first museum dedicated to its culture of besa, as well as for the design of the new campus for the College of Europe in Tirana, opening in the coming year.

Alexandre now runs his own studio with the mission of bringing together bespoke architectural design, culturally nuanced curation, teaching, and transnationally informed research.
