Alumni Video Series — Three Generations of Humanistic Answers, Coming Soon
Why do we still read and write in the age of AI?
In 2012, a business graduate entered MALCS looking for deeper meaning.
In 2017, a marketing employee won the Hong Kong Youth Literature Award with a story written during her spare time.
In 2023, a young student found his calling in literary studies.
They are Gabriel Tsang, Cassie Cheng, and Darius Tang—three generations of HKU MALCS graduates, united by the pursuit of truth, passion, and self-discovery.
A year at MALCS helped each find their direction:
- Gabriel (Class of 2013) became an assistant professor at Hong Kong Baptist University, passing on humanistic values through teaching.
- Cassie (Class of 2018) became a published author of five books, writing candidly about cities and the self.
- Darius (Class of 2024) chose academia, continuing to pursue his research.
We invited all three to answer the question:
Why do we still read and write when AI can do it for us?
Three videos. Coming soon.
