What does “home” mean to a writer?
Hon Lai Chu lives with her cat Tony, carrying fragments of home through repeated movement. In Sham Shui Po, Lee Wai Yi runs the street-side shop halfcup squat, where a neighbourhood slowly takes shape among people once unknown to each other. Human Yip moves to the remote Hakka village of Lai Chi Wo, finding healing among wild animals and native plants, and living alongside the natural world.
But when the home once known no longer exists, where can one still go?

Spanning eight decades and four continents, filmmaker and editor Mary Stephen embarks on a personal investigation into her English surname. It is not intended to be a narcissistic exploration but rather an effort to uncover the dissonances and the contradictions in our heritage that, in spite of our all-too-human desire for harmony and continuity, are the fundamental elements that shape us. It is in this spirit that this intimate journey unfolds.
Three Thursdays. Three documentaries. Three deep conversations with directors.
