Ms. WANG Jingbo Joanna

2024 MALCS Graduate

Officer, Project Management and Account Service, iPro Financial Press Limited, Hong Kong

Biography

In the summer of 2024, I received my first job offer and entered the Hong Kong financial industry. Now, I am responsible for company listings and information disclosure, being the bridge between companies and the Hong Kong stock market. Seems that I have set out on a new journey that has nothing to do with my studies in MALCS. Doubtlessly, this was an unexpected adventure, but after working for almost half a year, I cannot be more confident to say that without the life in MALCS, I would never make it here today.

Experience at MALCS

I chose MALCS program primarily because of my enduring passion for literature, which I have nurtured since childhood. My four years of study, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature, have provided a solid foundation in this discipline. However, MALCS has unexpectedly guided me toward the field of Film Studies. Over the course of just one year, I have achieved numerous milestones that I had never previously envisioned. These accomplishments include producing my first documentary, writing three short novellas, completing my initial internship as an Art Assistant at the M+ Museum, finalizing my dissertation in Film Studies, and ultimately graduating with Distinction. Reflecting upon my journey, I recognize that MALCS has catalyzed my transformation from a young woman plagued by uncertainty into a person characterized by confidence and courage. This program continuously presented me with challenges, transforming former obstacles into significant achievements. Additionally, MALCS has equipped me with the intellectual rigor necessary to engage in competitive environments beyond academia, while also reshaping my character to enhance my adaptability in professional settings. My dedication and preparedness have been acknowledged by my employer, and my patience and empathy are traits that clients particularly value. Regardless of the adventures I undertake, I remain undeterred, fully aware that MALCS has effectively equipped me for all future endeavors and challenges.

Words for Fellow MALCS Students and Potential Applicants

To everyone reading this: I know that you might be searching for answers, whether it’s a promise for your future, a potential opportunity, or simply a sense of security. However, I want to emphasize that “No Answer” isn’t necessarily negative. Over the past year, I’ve realized that one should NEVER limit themselves by predetermined paths. Before joining MALCS, I never imagined I could excel in Film Studies, reveal my talent for fiction writing, or create my own films, let alone thrive in the competitive financial industry. Yet, I did it, and all the success I had was beyond my imagination. Let me end up with something Dr. Winnie Yee, my academic mentor and spiritual guide, told me last year when she saw my uncertainty: “Joanna, always strive to be your best, and just wait—life will surprise you!” Look, an incredible adventure awaits you, and the perfect starting point is MALCS.
