Reflection

This internship effectively bridges the theoretical knowledge acquired from the MALCS program with practical workplace experience, granting me a precious chance for self-growth. During the process, my communication skills, problem-solving ability, teamwork competence, and even translation/writing proficiency were greatly upgraded through actual practice. When I started my internship program, I expected to learn more about the work content of the marketing team and the operating mechanism of the art world. As I got more proficient at my work at Art Basel, I realized how much I learned from my day-to-day practice, reflections on failures, and my supervisor’s feedback. My understanding of the marketing team’s duties and the logic of the art market has been greatly deepened as I started to view them from a more professional perspective. After the internship, I found myself more skillful and confident in tackling all kinds of tasks independently, and my personal awareness was elevated by the knowledge and work experience of the art market.

The priceless and memorable journey with Art Basel has led me to step into a magnificent art world, enhancing my creativity, precision, and professional competence in the art industry. Through this journey, I moved from a fresh beginner to a confident contributor.

I also appreciate the knowledge about art and culture that the MALCS program taught me. As I was assigned the task of drafting or translating content related to artistic concepts and sophisticated ideas from the artists, I could refer to what I learned from our instructors’ incredible lectures and convey the main ideas with more accurate and academic expressions. In this way, the work became a communication between me and the art world, as I could integrate the content I’ve learned from lectures with my real working experience in the art market.
