Intern at M+

2024 MALCS Graduate

Student volunteer of editorial group at M+

In late May 2024, I had a fancy and memorable internship experience at the M+ Museum. The first Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival (AAGFF) had just been held at that time, and I received the early call of student volunteers through MALCS. After an interview and some briefings, we started to work for the film festival. Student volunteers would be divided into different groups, and I belonged to the editorial one. We needed to have interviews with artists who were invited to the film festival and to write reports which summarise their ideas and creating processes. Because of the bilingual publishing request, translating colleagues’ articles was our mission, too.

For me, this internship is a good chance to improve my writing and translating skills, and a broad platform to learn about avant-garde films.

Except for writing tasks, we also needed to do lounge duty, such as guiding visitors, helping the workshop, and doing some short interviews with the audience. It is an interesting experience too because you can collect a lot of different thoughts from the audience, which means a new angle to review the film festival. For me, this internship is a good chance to improve my writing and translating skills, and a broad platform to learn about avant-garde films. I met a lot of wonderful artists who shared their living and creating experiences with me, and enjoyed some films and shows for free. The second AAGFF will be held in May 2025, please check the M+ website if you would like to join in.
