It explores how the cultures of visual consumption, surveillance, and simulacra are formed, how these visual cultures impact upon ways of seeing the world, upon feelings, desires, and thoughts. From advertising images to built spaces to videos and the cyberspace, there is an \u201coptical unconscious\u201d made up of the criss-crossings of technologies, power, ideologies, and desires. Students will learn to use critical concepts in cultural theory to assess the cultural politics of the image in visual cultures of the modern and the postmodern.<\/p>\n<p>Notes: <span style=\"color: #000000;\">NEW MAJORS<\/span> (declared Major from August 2023 onwards) must take <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">ONE FOUNDATIONAL COURSE<\/span> (6 credits) \u00a0(CLIT2001, CLIT2025, CLIT2094, CLIT2095 and\u00a0 CLIT2109) preferably in the second year<\/p>\n<p class=\"styletext\">Assessment: 100% coursework.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>6 credits| Dr. Ian FONG This course introduces students to key issues and debates in visual culture studies.
