CLIT2016: The Body in Culture

Spring 2022 | 6 Credits | Dr. Laura Meek

This course will explore various theoretical approaches and discourses for addressing the notion of ‘the body’. We will consider how bodies are produced within a complex matrix of cultural and socio-political-economic forces, challenging preconceived notions of bodies as given or biologically-determined. Special emphasis will be placed on questions of power and inequality as this shapes embodied experiences like gender, race, class, sexuality, ethnicity, ability, age, religion, and other intersectional aspects of corporeal identity.
